FENCE is happy to announce the formation of a new group to promote a healthy lifestyle. Wellness Walking Wednesdays is a weekly event incorporating physical activity into your weekly routine has proven to benefit your health by lowering blood pressure and cholesterol, reducing risk of heart disease and stroke, and increasing mental well-being. Come out and enjoy a relaxing morning in nature, meet new people and form a healthy habit with Americorps member Michael McClure. This group is free and open to all ages—simply show up at the main office at FENCE.

FENCE will be offering a free yoga series on Friday mornings held in the FENCE great room. The yoga classes are lead by local instructor Rhonda Giles. All ages and yoga enthusiasts of all levels are welcome. Attendees are encouraged to bring a water bottle to the class. Yoga mats will be available for use. These classes are made possible by the free community event grant at Polk County Community Foundation.

Local Artist, Christine Mariotti, will be teaching a watercolor class at FENCE 'En Plein Air'. This class will be held outdoors near the gardens and focus on painting flowers. All supplies will be provided for attendees. This class is free but pre-registration is required. This class is made possible by the Kirby Endowment at the Polk County Community Foundation.

The activities offered will be free, fun and educational aimed to engage children between the ages of 5 and 12. The “Kids Nature Club” will be held on a drop in basis, so adults should plan to stay with their children while at FENCE. Also spend some time during their visit exploring the trails. This month’s theme is Animals. Kids will get a chance to meet the FENCE educational animals and create an animal themed craft.

Naturalist, Carlton Burke will visit FENCE and will bring along some of his educational animals for the program. This is sure to be a great event for all ages! “The Southern Appalachian Mountains are home to an incredible diversity of both plant and animal life. Form the high ridges to the low valleys, the varied topography of these mountains combine to create a unique blend of plant and animal communities. In this program you will meet some of the natural residents who make their home in the Appalachian Wild!” This program is made possible by the Kirby Endowment at the Polk County Community Foundation.

The Dan Keller Trio consists of 3 of Asheville's hardest working jazz musicians: Drummer Micah Thomas, Ryan Kijanka, and Dan Keller. The trio has played in venues across the eastern U.S. from Charleston, SC to Plainville, CT and witnessed Micah's brief career as a comedian while stuck on the "quiet ride" on one of Philadelphia's public trains.
