TR&HC Annual Block House Steeplechase Races May 02, 2015 from 10:00 AM to 04:00 PM — FENCE Equestrian Side,

Since 1947, the TR&HC Block House Steeplechase Races have ushered in spring with elegant hats, tailgating, family reunions, and the sound & sight of thoroughbreds thundering past for a win. The Block House is the longest running steeplechase in the state of North Carolina and crowds of 18,000 to 20,000 annually attend the races.

This 2-part “edutainment” series is for horse riders and non-riders who have wondered what it would be like to race against wild zebra in South Africa and track rhino with a camera by horseback. During 30 years of riding together, Landrum residents Vince and Gloria Verrecchio have shared equine adventures on breeds hot and cold in Africa, Europe, and North America. Vince brings decades of advertising photography experience and Gloria her knowledge as an equine rehabilitation veterinarian to add color and depth to their stories of flora and fauna, cultures, places, and a cast of riding characters.

Wine and Paint Night May 21, 2015 from 06:00 PM to 08:30 PM — Fence Center,

Come out to FENCE for a night of painting and drinking wine! Local artist Christine Mariotti will be present all night to demonstrate a painting for the group and help guests with their paintings. Beginners as well as painters of all skill levels welcome for this event.

Join Americorps member Amy Schmitte for a family friendly nature hike at FENCE. Meet at the trail shelter at 10am for a fun hike where we will learn about some of the plants and animals that call FENCE home. Our hike will last about 2 hours and will end with a fun nature scavenger hunt.

Cowboy Mounted Shooting, one of the fastest growing equestrian sports, is an exciting display of horsemanship and marksmanship. Mounted contestants compete in this fast action timed event using two .45 caliber single action revolvers each loaded with five rounds of specially prepared blank ammunition.
