Michael Plauche, of Ventures Birding, will be the guide for this informative walk around FENCE. Attendees should wear comfortable walking shoes, bring a water bottle, and bring along binoculars if you have them.
While the excitement of spring migration is well behind us, there's much to be enjoyed about a walk in the woods and fields at FENCE in the summer. Many of our birds are still in their 'breeding season' - some, such as Goldfinches, will have active nests while others will have young that have long since fledged. There should still be quite a bit of singing going on we may find parents feeding newly-fledged young as well - always an entertaining sight! The Swallows will be mostly finished with nesting by this time and will be getting ready to depart, and we could see some of the growing migratory flocks of Purple Martin, Tree, Barn, Cliff, and Rough-winged Swallows before they head south. There's always the chance for some surprises as well!
