Full Moon Hike

The Full Snow Moon will illuminate the sky Friday, February 10th. A guided hike starts at the FENCE Center at 6 pm to enjoy the sunset then ventures into the woods for a moonlit hike lead by AmeriCorps member Britney Tatters.

This month’s theme is For the Love of Birds. Kids will learn about local birds and will be able to create bird feeders, and bird window decals to take home with them. The activities offered will be both fun and educational aimed to engage children between the ages of 5 and 12.

Cello Times Two returns with Dr. Brenda Leonard and Benjamin Smith. They will be performing a lighthearted, fun, and easy mixture of some old favorites like The Entertainer and the Swan, classical works, pops from our parents childhood, and more arranged or written for two cellos. This is a crowd pleasing program that all who attend are sure to enjoy. This event is free and open to the public. Be sure to stick around after the performance for refreshments. This event is made possible by the Kirby Endowment at the Polk County Community Foundation.

Birds of Prey-Wild for Life

Local Wildlife rehabilitation organization, Wild for Life, to visit FENCE. Get up close and personal with some local birds of prey. They will present a fun, educational program on local bird of prey species, their role in the environment, and the role of wildlife rehabilitation centers in our area. Wild for life will be bringing along a few of their educational birds for the presentation as well! This event is free, open to the public, and is sure to be a great event for attendees of all ages.

FENCE will present our first Armchair Traveler of the year. Natalie Rothenberg will be our guest for the afternoon. She will attempt to warm us all up during our winter months by presenting about her experiences in Kauai, Hawaii where she volunteered on a farm for four months. This wonderful presentation is free and open to the public. Following the presentation refreshments will be served. This event is made possible by the Kirby Endowment at the Polk County Community Foundation.

A guided hike starts at the FENCE Center at 7pm to enjoy the sunset then ventures into the woods for a moonlit hike lead by AmeriCorps member Britney Tatters. During the hike the history behind the March full moon many names and meanings will be discussed. All are encouraged to attend this free guided hike. Please dress appropriate for the weather as it will be chilly. Hot cocoa will be provided.

The activities offered will be both fun and educational aimed to engage children between the ages of 5 and 12. The “Kids Nature Club” will be offered free and open to the public and will be held on a drop in basis, so adults should plan to accompany their children while at FENCE. Families are encouraged to bring their kids by for the “Kids Nature Club” but also spend some time during their visit exploring the trails.
