Nancy Basket has coiled and woven vessels for 40 years since she helped start the first basketry guild in the US in modern times.  She uses Pine Needles, Kudzu and other invasive species. Moving South from Washington state in 1989, she has taught in public schools as an artist in education. Nancy makes 8 foot coiled sculptures depicting Cherokee stories, five foot chandeliers and miniatures as big as your thumb nail. Nancy’s 100 year old barn is retrofitted with kudzu bales and is her teaching workshop, where she makes her handmade paper from kudzu leaves in Walhalla, SC.

In order to allow this programming, FENCE is making some slight changes to adhere to NC guidelines and ensure a safe experience for all who attend. The program will be moved outdoors to the pavilion adjacent to the FENCE center. The pavilion is undercover to allow for shade and protection from rain. Pre-registration will be required to attend the program. We will be limiting the number of attendees to keep in line with Phase 2 restrictions on outdoor gatherings. Please register by calling FENCE at 828-859-9021 or emailing info@fence.org. We are encouraging that attendees wear facemasks and do their best to social distance. Seating will be spaced out more than usual and hand sanitizer will be available. Thank you for understanding and FENCE is looking forward to seeing the community again!

This event is made possible by the Kirby Endowment at the Polk County Community Foundation.
