Invasive Plant Removal

Cancelled due to weather. Please check back for reschedule date in May. In support of National Volunteer Week, April 16th – 20th, FENCE is hosting an invasive species removal project. In support of National Volunteer Week, April 16th – 20th, FENCE is hosting an invasive species removal project. Invasive plants destroy countless acres of native habitat.  They often decrease or eliminate the biodiversity that exist within these ecosystems.  Removing invasives helps to restore that biodiversity.

FENCE is partnering up with AmeriCorps Project Conserve to remove invasive plant species along the Wildwood Trail at FENCE on Wednesday, April 18th at 9:00 am.  AmeriCorps Project Conserve is a service organization that focuses on conservation efforts in Western North Carolina.

FENCE will supply all the equipment and supplies needed for the project, but volunteers should bring their own water bottles and lunches.  Due to the poison ivy and thorny bushes present on the trail, FENCE recommends volunteers to wear long sleeves and pants.

If you are interested in participating in this service project, please contact Kristy Burja, Nature Education Assistant, at (828) 859-9021 ext. 13 or education@fence.org.  Pre-registration is required for this event.
