Junior Naturalist Program

FENCE has added a new opportunity for children to play and learn in nature - the Junior Naturalist Program. The Junior Naturalist Program is a self-guided exploration program designed to engage children ages 5 through 9. To participate in the program, adults should plan to accompany their children to FENCE and check out a Junior Naturalist Exploration Pack from the main office.

Each backpack will contain useful tools for children to explore nature while at FENCE - such as binoculars, magnifying glasses, viewfinders, identification sheets and other equipment. In addition to the backpack, children will be given a Junior Naturalist Workbook filled with activities that can be completed at one’s own pace. While exploring the natural elements that make FENCE a wonderful place, children will participate in several games and activities that draw on their senses and observation skills. Activities are designed to allow children to make their own connections to the natural world, while also being guided in ways that promote stewardship and facilitate learning. Families with older children stay tuned for the Junior Master Naturalist Program, in which we dive deeper into nature exploration. Activities encourage similar themes of stewardship, connection to nature and learning. Example activities include micro-hikes and a stewardship project!
