Owl Prowl with Aaron Steed
'Owl Prowl' - Whoooo's that calling at night? Hoots, toots, whinnies and even some whistles are made by our local owl species. By late March, many owls are actively calling, and on this owl prowl, we will listen for and try to see as many different owls as possible. If we are lucky, we may get to hear/see Great Horned, Eastern Screech, Barred and Barn Owls. Of course, we will hope for calm and clear weather as windy conditions can make finding owls very difficult!

Spring Bird Hike with Simon Thompson
FENCE welcomes everyone from first time birders to advanced birders to join Simon Thompson, local ornithologist for his walk on the FENCE property! Everyone loves birding in the spring and there are few places nicer than the Carolina Foothills in April. The flowers are opening and the birds are all singing. Brown Thrashers sing their rich songs from the treetops and Eastern Bluebirds are probably already on eggs, and the first broods of Carolina Chickadees and Tufted Titmice may have already hatched. We should enjoy warm weather and birdsong on a fine spring day. This event is made possible by the Kirby Endowment at the Polk County Community Foundation.
