Free Family Concert - Blue Haze
Like the haze on the mountains after a spring rain, wood smoke from a mountain cabin or the deep glow of sunlight through ice crystals on the mountain hemlocks,” Blue Haze” will wrap you in an emotional blanket of song. Jim Walker (Mandolin/Vocals), Phil Jenkins (Banjo/ Vocals), Lance Smith (Guitar/ vocals) Robert Hall (Bass/vocals) deliver renditions of contemporary and traditional bluegrass that will bring images of mountain life to mind. Three part harmonies with mandolin and banjo leads will dance your mind through memories of Lost Love, Family, Hard Times, and Mountain Beauty. Come experience the “Blue Haze” sound.

Star Viewing at FENCE
This month in honor of the 4th annual North Carolina Statewide Star Party, FENCE is featuring our resident astronomical group, Foothills Astronomical Society. Once a month members of the Foothills Astronomical Society, typically on the first Friday of the month depending on the weather, come out to FENCE at sunset and set up telescopes on top of Hawk’s Ridge (behind the FENCE center). Foothills Astronomical Society aims to encourage astronomy and space exploration learning throughout the community. Whether you are a first time star gazer or an experienced observer, all are welcome to join the group.

Armchair Traveler about Myanmar in SE Asia
If there is one theme prevalent throughout that entire country it would have to be Pagodas, the golden Buddhist temples which are constructed in the hundreds of thousands across the land. Wherever he ended up, he could always be certain to be welcomed by one of these looming golden spires. Preston will talk about train travel on British colonial era railways, traditional Burmese marionette performance and crawling through the dusty chambers of ancient stone temples. He'll also bring along examples of Burmese textiles, currency, and a few audio recordings he made while visiting!
